Discretionary Grant Fund

The Discretionary Grant Fund closed at midday today and whilst we saw a steady increase in the number of applications as the deadline approached, it looks like we may have some money left once we've evaluated all the eligible applications and awarded grants to the successful applicants.

If that is the case, then we may look into opening a second short round of applications. We'll be able to provide you with more information in next week's update but in the meantime, please continue to direct businesses in your wards to our South and Vale Business Support website for guidance, help and advice: www.svbs.co.uk.

Electric vehicle charging – building regulations

The government recently announced proposals to make it a requirement for developers to install electric vehicle charging points on new developments, which would be managed through changes to building regulations.

We responded to the consultation at the time, broadly supporting the proposals but explaining that the timescales to implement the changes could be more ambitious – and to recommend the regulations were written flexibly to reflect changes to technology over time. The government has now published a summary of the responses it received, on its website. A full response will follow in due course, but a date has not yet been set for this.

Councillor resignation

We have received Ruth Molyneaux's resignation as a district councillor for the Grove North Ward of Vale of White Horse, which took immediate effect.

A notice of vacancy will be published this week. If an election is called to fill the vacancy, a poll will not take place until 6 May 2021 in accordance with the Local Government and Police and Crime Commissioner (Coronavirus) (Postponement of Elections and Referendums) (England and Wales) Regulations 2020 and the Coronavirus Act 2020 or until such date or within such period as may be specified in any further regulations made under the Coronavirus Act 2020. The date of the poll will be specified in the notice of election published by the Returning Officer.
